Diwali (or the festival of lights) is India’s most important festival of the year—a time to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. It is widely observed among more than a billion people from a variety of faiths across India and those living in other countries around the world. The five days of Diwali are marked by prayer, feasts, fireworks, family gatherings and charitable giving.
The City’s Diwali celebration will take place on the Bernice Parrott Stage in George Zegouras Market Square behind City Hall on Sunday, Oct. 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. Members of the community are encouraged to be a part of this special family event which promises music, dance performances, vendors and cultural stories shared by international students and graduates from Loyalist College.
