And there’s more…

FARMERS MARKET
Fall is the time to visit the Farmer’s Market when it is full of freshly harvested crops – all available at the Belleville Farmers Market. Over two centuries of generations have grown up with this market Downtown Belleville. The market is a community gathering place, and people are making the choice to support locally grown and made products.

Constructed in 1872-73, five years before Belleville became a city, the original City Hall building housed an indoor market on the first floor and a public hall and municipal office on the second floor. During this time residents could shop inside the building to purchase fruits, vegetables and pies on display.

Located in Market Square behind City Hall, the market is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays all year-round from 9 am to 5 pm (peak time 9 am to 2 pm).

Right beside the market, you’ll find the Memorial Marketplace with its art deco facade and storied past. Originally opened in 1929, the arena was home to generations of skaters, fans, and hockey legends. Most famously, it served as home ice to the Belleville McFarlands, who brought international glory to the city by winning the 1959 World Championship in Prague.

Today, this century-old structure is undergoing a transformation into the Memorial Marketplace—a vibrant new space that honours the past while creating something entirely new. The vision is to turn the historic arena into a dynamic hub for local entrepreneurs, artisan vendors, and community events, with flexible space for pop-up markets, festivals, and private rentals.

Inside, echoes of the past remain. You’ll still find references to local hockey legends like Bobby Hull, Matt Cooke, Brad Richardson, and Andrew Shaw—just a few of the players who skated here before hitting the big leagues. And now, a new generation of creators and community members will carry on the legacy in a whole new way.

Designated under the Ontario Heritage Act in 2003, the building remains a protected landmark—a time capsule of sport, grit, and community spirit that’s ready for its next chapter.
