Take Back the Night

September 25 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

FREE

The annual Take Back the Night parade and rally to end sexual violence happens Thursday, September 25 in Belleville.

The event hosted by the Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte and District along with other community partners, also aims to raise awareness, empower individuals and support survivors in their healing.

Take Back the Night began in the 1970s in response to incidents of violence against women and was based on the premise that women should be able to go out at night and feel safe in their community without the risk of violence.

Today the movement recognizes and embraces survivors of all gender identities and backgrounds.

Survivors, allies and advocates are invited to attend a rally at 6 p.m. at Market Square which will be followed by a march in the streets surrounding the square.

The evening will finish with a candlelight vigil.

This year’s theme is Strength & Unity, Power & Community

During the rally organizers will be highlighting survivor stories through a special booklet that reflects a range of lived experiences. Survivors who wish to share their voices are encouraged to take part.

Take Back the Night is proudly organized by: Community Advocacy & Legal Centre, Red Cedars ShelterSexual Assault Centre for Quinte and District, Three Oaks FoundationVictim Services HPELA, and the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Response Program through Quinte Health.
