Music and Art Happen Here

Discover great music and one-of-a-kind art and exhibits at an array of charming art galleries and theatres surrounding Belleville’s Downtown District.

Belleville boasts a vibrant live music scene. Local and touring bands are featured regularly at favourite spots like the Beaufort Pub, Capers, Little Texas Bar & Grill, Meyers Creek Brewing Company, Sans Souci, The Belleville Club and UpFront Café, where you can enjoy great atmosphere and live music year-round. Music-filled summer nights are even better by the water at The Pier Patio Bar & Grill, Signal Brewery and The Local Social House.
Looking for live performances and big-name talent? You’ll find it at The Empire Theatre located in the historic Downtown District. This 700-seat venue, originally opened in 1938 as the McCarthy Theatre, was lovingly restored and reopened as an event venue in 2003. Touted for its exceptional acoustic structure, the Empire hosts Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Grammy, and Juno Award-winners, as well as the impressive annual Empire Rockfest.

For art lovers, the walk between Front, Bridge & Pinnacle Streets is home to the Belleville Art Association, the Quinte Arts Council, Gallery 121 and the John M. Parrott Art Gallery (on the 3rd floor of the Belleville Public Library) showcasing a wide variety of artistic and creative work. And while you’re at it, be sure to take in some of the beautiful murals displayed throughout the downtown painted on historic buildings and tucked in nooks along the way.

The Downtown also offers up the annual Quinte Arts Council “en Plein Air” Festival – a four-day juried competition where artists leave their studios behind to capture Belleville “live” in late spring, as well as the Belleville Arts Festival which happens during the month of November.

If film is your thing, you’ll want to plan for the Belleville Downtown DocFest in November, or if you prefer, you can catch the newest movie releases at the Galaxy Cinema located at the Quinte Mall. The Empire Theatre is also home to weekly film screenings with the Quinte Film Alternative.

Belleville also has great live performances at the intimate 40-seat Theatre in the Wings or at the 150-seat Pinnacle Playhouse, where you can watch local thespians from the Belleville Theatre Guild bring celebrated classics and quirky, unforgettable stories to life all year long.

Check out the Discover Belleville calendar of events to find performances by the Quinte Ballet School or the Quinte Symphony who often perform at Centennial High School or Maranatha Church.

And for a full night of fun, consider visiting Shorelines Casino for exciting gaming and live, weekly entertainment. The casino has 500+ slot machines, table games, and great dining at the Windward Restaurant.
