Directed by Moira Nikander-Forrester The Sound of Music, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s final collaboration, is coming to the BTG stage! Set at the beginning of WWII, it is based on the true story of the Von Trapp family who lived in Austria and escaped the scourge of the Nazis. This incredible production has it all: romance, comedy, intrigue, adventure, suspense, and high drama – all of which come together with the exquisite music score that is still beloved the world over. When a religious novice proves too high-spirited for the cloistered life, she is sent to serve as a governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her rapport with the children, together with her kind spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been annexed by Nazi Germany, who demands the Captain’s immediate service in their Navy. The family’s escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales in theatrical history.

The Salt Cellars was formed in 2016 by Virginia deCarle and Rob Bersan, an independent duo hailing from the south side of Algonquin Park. They blend the sounds of Folk, Blues and Jazz to create a sound that is uniquely their own. They have played in many venues in different parts of Ontario and were Showcase Artists at the 2023 Folk Music Ontario conference. A bit of Salt Cellars recent history: In 2017, The Salt Cellars introduced their music to Ron Kapitain (harmonica), and invited him to join them. They recorded an album titled “Truth” at Anax Junius Music Studios in Maynooth, ON (owned by Richard Joudrey and Anne Wilde) with recording technician/Bassist Richard Joudrey (Blue Peter fame) in 2018. Following the recording of their first album, Richard Joudrey (bass), Brendon Burgess (drums) and Anne Wilde (backing vocals) became part of The Salt Cellars band family. As a six piece they released a second album at Anax Junius Music Studios titled “Crooked Tree”, in September 2019, and their 3rd album titled, “Inside These Walls”, was released August 2022. “Inside These Walls” features guest Canadian musicians Jane Bunnett, a multi JUNO award winning member of Maqueque, and Hugh Marsh, a jazz violinist who has played with, among others, Bruce Cockburn, Loreena Mckennitt, Kevin Hearn and The Rheostatics.

Night Kitchen Too (NKT) has been entertaining enthusiastic audiences from the Quinte Region for 10 years. NIGHT KITCHEN TOO provides a showcase for a diverse group of performers from the Quinte Region who present their music, poetry or spoken word on the stage of the Pinnacle Playhouse in the downtown core. Night Kitchen Too is a replica of an original idea that started entertaining audiences in Wolfville, NS. When granted permission to bring it to Belleville, we added “Too.” Just as with the original, NKT is a not-for-profit project. Proceeds from concert admissions are distributed amongst the performers after theatre, sound and minimal organizing costs have been paid.

What better way to celebrate having a Monday off than going out for some laughs on Sunday night? Canada Day Eve Comedy Night at The Smokin’ 116 Bistro is your chance to catch three of Canada’s funniest comics for a fraction of what you would pay to see them at the top comedy clubs in the country. Doors 5:30pm Show 6:00pm Headliner Alex Miller, a hilarious comic from Kelowna BC, is taking the Canadian comedy scene by storm with his sharp wit and infectious humour. Having performed at some of the top comedy clubs in the country (Yuk Yuk’s, Comedy Bar, etc…) and historic venues around the world (The Comedy Clubhouse Barcelona, The Waverley Bar Edinburgh, etc…), Alex’s fresh approach is winning him fans everywhere he goes. Alex’s hilarious takes on fatherhood and married life, peppered with dark observations and just over-the-line quips, have made him the “cool dad” and a must see. The evening’s emcee, Jeff Elliott, has quickly established himself as a rising star in the Canadian comedy scene and was nominated for a prestigious Canadian Comedy Award. Jeff is also a favourite on the festival circuit having appeared at the CBC’s Winnipeg and Halifax Comedy Festivals. As well, he can be heard regularly on XM Satellite Radio. As a writer, Jeff freelances for several major advertising agencies and does script consulting for Disney. The show will also feature Chad Noonan, an Ottawa based comic, podcaster and writer. He was the winner of Just for Laughs Stand Up and Pitch 2022, performed at The CCHOF festival in Hamilton and his podcast was named one of the Top 10 comedy podcasts in Canada! Chad has performed across the country.
