THE MEMORIAL MARKET PLACE

The historic Belleville Memorial Arena has begun a new chapter as The Memorial Market Place, a dynamic lifestyle and retail hub in the heart of Belleville’s downtown. This exciting transformation of a beloved city landmark combines commerce, creativity, and community all under one roof.

An active community centre for more than 80 years, the Memorial Arena was Belleville’s major claim to hockey fame as home ice for the Belleville McFarlands (1956-61), the team that defeated the Soviet Union in 1959 to win the World Championship. It holds the memories of generations of skaters including NHL Alumni Bobby Hull, Matt Cooke, Brad Richardson and Andrew Shaw. In 2003, it was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act by the City of Belleville and remains a time capsule of sports history.

The new Memorial Market Place builds upon this rich heritage, offering a new vision for the space while preserving the building’s unique architectural charm. With views of Belleville’s Farmers Market, The Memorial Market Place has over 15,000 square feet of retail space and the soon to be open The Rink, 15,000 square foot event space.

These shops are now open and thriving at the market place, with more shops scheduled to open soon. Benji’s Café – a community-focused café that has already become a local favorite since opening in 2023, Cracked Glass Design – an inviting stained-glass workshop and artist studio, The Kiln Ceramics Studio – a Canadian sourced paint-your-own-pottery studio, The Salon – a prestigious salon offering full salon services in a welcoming and relaxed environment, LOFT & Co. – a contemporary women’s boutique of clothing, accessories, shoes and more, Crystal Catch, specializing in fresh fish but offering a variety of grocery staples and specialties.

FARMERS MARKET

Any season is a great time to visit the Belleville Farmers Market. Over two centuries of families and neighbours have grown up with this market in Downtown Belleville – it’s become a community gathering place and it’s a fantastic way to support locally grown and made products.

Located in Market Square behind City Hall, the market is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays all year-round from 9 am to 5 pm (peak time 9 am to 2 pm).

OFF THE BEATEN PATH

Venture north along Highways 62 and 37 for even more discovery. Ruttle Brothers Furniture offers beautifully crafted Mennonite pieces that bring warmth to any home. The Somerville Centre houses unique finds like DecorChic Living, Exclusive Invites, Just Brew It, Kimberley’s DeJa Vu Boutique, Steve Marshman Fine Jewellery, and The Cottagely Thrifters. Before heading home, stop by Bridle Path Tack Shop for equestrian gear—or swing into Just Bee Cuz for a final dose of charm and honeyed hospitality.
