Night Kitchen Too, Belleville’s unique musical variety show, has been entertaining enthusiastic audiences from the Quinte Region for 12 years. Over that time, hundreds of local singers, musicians, poets and storytellers have graced the stage at The Pinnacle Playhouse in downtown Belleville, Ontario. Invited performers have a sound check an hour before Showtime at 7:30 pm. Each act gets approximately 5 minutes or one song/poem and the Feature act usually has 3 opportunities to entertain the always receptive NKT audiences. Exhibition Dates: April 2 – April 30 The Quinte Arts Council invites the public to experience Carto / Topo / Geo / Graphic: Rediscovering Lost Maps, a captivating new exhibition by artist and illustrator Carl Wiens. This body of work represents the culmination of a year of collecting, clipping, collaging, and painting, drawing inspiration from vintage maps and atlases. Through layered compositions and intricate details, Wiens transforms historical cartographic materials into contemporary artworks, revealing new narratives and visual landscapes. Maps become both medium and metaphor—charting journeys through imagination, memory, and discovery. Carl Wiens has enjoyed a successful career in the arts spanning more than 30 years. His work is deeply inspired by science and the natural world, with a particular fascination for robots, insects, and the universe. In addition to his studio practice, Carl teaches science and technology–based illustration at Sheridan College, where he continues to be inspired by the creativity and dedication of emerging illustrators. His work has received international recognition from organizations including the Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, 3×3 Magazine, and the Applied Arts Awards. His illustrations have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes, Barron’s, and Esquire. His book projects include The Science of Song, Wild Buildings and Bridges, and FINNA. When he’s not creating illustrations, Carl enjoys cycling, kayaking, stargazing, chopping wood, and playing hockey. Time spent outdoors and surrounded by nature continues to fuel his creativity. Led by Dr. Terri-Lynn Brennan and Christine Friday in partnership with ArtsBuild Ontario, this session will explore how we can collectively support Indigenous creative spaces and strengthen our roles as Treaty partners. About the Session This interactive working session focuses on the intersection of allyship, Indigenous creative spaces, and self-determination. Together, we will: Explore how arts organizations can build respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous artists and communities Reflect on organizational practices and how they can better support Indigenous sovereignty and self-determined spaces Learn from the guiding principles of the Two-Row Wampum and the Paddling Upstream framework Develop approaches rooted in humility, respect, and deeper cultural understanding This workshop also marks the culmination of a four-year Indigenous Creative Spaces Project—bringing together Indigenous artists and leaders from across Ontario to share knowledge, strengthen networks, and support the growth of Indigenous-led creative spaces. With a voice “that must be heard to be believed” (Rob Baker, The Tragically Hip), Kingston’s Miss Emily weaves blues, country and rock together in a spellbinding, major-award-winning blend. “The best pipes I’ve ever heard,” according to Gene Simmons. The 17-piece Commodores Orchestra has provided swing music accompaniment to life in the Quinte Region since the Roaring Twenties. As the historic ensemble nears its 100th anniversary in 2028, the Commodores have adapted their big band sound to much acclaim from modern audiences, thanks to the contributions of some of Canada’s finest Grammy and Juno level musicians. But make no mistake. It’s still a Belleville and Quinte-based band; two-thirds of its players live less than half an hour away.
