RISE is a space for women to be seen, heard, and honoured. This annual exhibition is an invitation to all who identify as women to share their artistic voices—bold or quiet, emerging or established—across painting, illustration, photography, mixed media, textiles, sculpture, and ceramics. Aligned with International Women’s Day 2026 and its theme Give to Gain, RISE explores what grows when we offer our time, our stories, our care, and our creativity. What do we gain when generosity becomes a practice? When women lift one another, what becomes possible—for ourselves, for our communities, for the future? RISE is more than an exhibition—it’s a gathering of voices, a shared platform, and a declaration that women’s creativity shapes culture. Exhibition: March 6th-27, 10:00am – 4:00pm (closed Mondays, Weekends) Featured Artwork: Angela Wiggins, “I Am Here”

Exhibition Dates: April 2 – April 30 The Quinte Arts Council invites the public to experience Carto / Topo / Geo / Graphic: Rediscovering Lost Maps, a captivating new exhibition by artist and illustrator Carl Wiens. This body of work represents the culmination of a year of collecting, clipping, collaging, and painting, drawing inspiration from vintage maps and atlases. Through layered compositions and intricate details, Wiens transforms historical cartographic materials into contemporary artworks, revealing new narratives and visual landscapes. His work is deeply inspired by science and the natural world, with a particular fascination for robots, insects, and the universe. In addition to his studio practice, Carl teaches science and technology–based illustration at Sheridan College, where he continues to be inspired by the creativity and dedication of emerging illustrators. All the music, none of the pressure! We have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing musically inclined people who love to play but are looking for something more casual and cooperative than our open mic format. So join us for our unplugged jam session. Whether it’s a guitar, mandolin, cajon, ukulele, or other acoustic instrument, players of all skill levels are welcome, or just come to listen and sing along! So how’s a jam different? – A “jam” is any music played without preparation beforehand. This might mean that the music is undefined, or simply that the running order and the musicians are.

Steve Stacey is a throwback to the days of storytelling in song, contemplating life with humour, unique observations and truth that is too obscure to be a lie. Armed with songs about cars, lost love, drinking, and the occasional murder ballad, no topic is off limits. Steve will keep you on your toes, trying to figure out what he will say next. Working on a new album of original songs, Steve has 2 cd’s of original material “Sounded Good at the Time” and “Tall Tales Fibs and Outright lies” which was described in Exclaim magazine -Steve Stacey and company have carjacked Buck Owens, rear-ended John Prine and made off with (at least) a vat of homemade whiskey to create this set of infectious masterpieces..

Have you ever noticed the effect that sounds have on your body? If we close our eyes and even imagine the sounds of a busy city street, our bodies tighten. When we imagine the sounds of a calm forest or body of water, our bodies relax. Sound is a powerful tool that we are only just beginning to understand with regard to wellness, but we can trust what our bodies tell us. Our bodies are always listening. Can you remember hearing a tone or sound that struck a chord deep within your body and felt good? This is resonance. Let’s explore your resonance together with the help of the crystal singing bowls. Join Stef Bourke, Alignment Coach and sound explorer, for this deeply restorative sound bath meditation. Participants will settle into nests of their own creation (props and yoga mats are provided) and will be led through a 75-minute blend of meditative guidance, spoken word, crystal bowls and voice. Basic props are provided, but feel free to bring your own comfort items from home and a journal should you find you want to write things down.

Our meeting this month explores the limestone rocks and landforms that are a familiar sight to those who know the Quinte region. What may seem like an ordinary rock, has in fact dramatically shaped the biodiversity of the region. This talk will explore how limestone surface geology shapes landscapes through its specific topography, chemistry, and hydrology, to create a variety of weird and wonderful ecosystems…some which are rarely found outside the Quinte region. All of our meetings are free and open to the public. All are welcome! |

Maps become both medium and metaphor—charting journeys through imagination, memory, and discovery. Carl Wiens has enjoyed a successful career in the arts spanning more than 30 years. His work is deeply inspired by science and the natural world, with a particular fascination for robots, insects, and the universe. In addition to his studio practice, Carl teaches science and technology–based illustration at Sheridan College, where he continues to be inspired by the creativity and dedication of emerging illustrators. His work has received international recognition from organizations including the Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, 3×3 Magazine, and the Applied Arts Awards. His illustrations have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes, Barron’s, and Esquire. His book projects include The Science of Song, Wild Buildings and Bridges, and FINNA. When he’s not creating illustrations, Carl enjoys cycling, kayaking, stargazing, chopping wood, and playing hockey. Time spent outdoors and surrounded by nature continues to fuel his creativity. Featured Artwork: Night Swimmer 12 × 12″ collage on panel Join us for the opening reception on April 2 from 4–6 PM and explore a unique artistic journey where geography, memory, and imagination intersect.

A Welcoming Invitation We invite arts organizations, artists, and community members to come together in a spirit of respect, curiosity, and shared responsibility. This gathering offers a space to listen, learn, and build relationships grounded in allyship and understanding. Led by Dr. Terri-Lynn Brennan and Christine Friday in partnership with ArtsBuild Ontario, this session will explore how we can collectively support Indigenous creative spaces and strengthen our roles as Treaty partners. About the Session This interactive working session focuses on the intersection of allyship, Indigenous creative spaces, and self-determination. Together, we will: Explore how arts organizations can build respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous artists and communities Reflect on organizational practices and how they can better support Indigenous sovereignty and self-determined spaces Learn from the guiding principles of the Two-Row Wampum and the Paddling Upstream framework Develop approaches rooted in humility, respect, and deeper cultural understanding This workshop also marks the culmination of a four-year Indigenous Creative Spaces Project—bringing together Indigenous artists and leaders from across Ontario to share knowledge, strengthen networks, and support the growth of Indigenous-led creative spaces. Join Us This is an opportunity to be part of an important and ongoing conversation—one that centres Indigenous voices, honours relationships, and supports a more inclusive and equitable future in the arts. All are welcome. We look forward to gathering with you. Registration required. Space is limited.
