Spirit in Nature by Angela Wiggins – Opening Reception

Quinte Arts Council 36 Bridge St. E., Belleville

The QAC presents Spirit in Nature by Angela Wiggins. Join us for the opening reception September 5th from 4pm – 6pm. Angela Wiggins Canadian Fine Artist Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) by blood, Kanyen’kehà:ka (Mohawk) by association, all of Turtle Island in spirit. Born April 9 1969 in Ontario Canada. Angela Wiggins spent her entire life exploring visual art, always knowing her family background was alive within the spirit of her indigenous roots. She had no ability to connect to her family’s roots because her grandfather was a victim of the Spanish Residential School, where they attempted to strip him of his Indigenous identity. Fast forward: moving to the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory as an adolescent, being surrounded by those who hold pride in their Indigenous heritage, Angela found herself influenced by the culture she was surrounded by as she grew into adulthood. Exploring visual art her entire life, a real connection was made when she began to explore her indigenous roots through art. She began to connect with the spirit of the land and of nature. “ I want people of every culture to look at the colours and spirit in each piece of art I create, and to feel their soul fill with joy and healing” Growing up across Canada exposed Angela to the many styles of art within the indigenous culture, and her art reflects her spiritual connection with the land rather than any blood connection to any one part of the land. Working primarily in acrylics, Angela has also been successful in many mediums. She continues to focus on bringing spirit and healing to the nation as she learns and grows within her indigenous ancestry. Angela has now sold art worldwide. Angela aspires to become a nationally recognized female indigenous artist celebrating the spirit of the land through the form of Indigenous Art.
