Belleville Theatre Guild: Hilda’s Yard

Belleville Theatre Guild 256 Pinnacle St, Belleville, Ontario, Canada

Directed by Alexandra Bell Picture a summer day in 1956. The kids have finally moved out and you are ready to settle into your golden years with your spouse by your side before a shiny new television set. This is the vision that Sam and Hilda Fluck are enjoying. The laundry line is set, the drinks are in the fridge, and the sun is shining in the backyard. What could go wrong? As the day progresses and the Fluck yard and home become host to a cast of characters –some who do not even bother to use the door and arrive by fence–but Sam and Hilda realize that their dreams of an idyllic empty nest may have been nothing more than a delusion. Canadian playwright Norm Foster thrills again with a touching and heartfelt comedy that covers themes of life, love, and social change in the span of one day with the Flucks

UpFront Cafe 313 Front Street, Belleville

From slick hot-rod rockabilly to smooth crooning honky tonk, Nicholas Campbell is the real deal. Inspired by some of the last century’s most iconic country sounds,, Campbell first picked up the guitar at age 10 and was gigging by 11. Having found a fresh start during the pandemic, Nicholas began playing consistently with his band, The Two Meter Cheaters. The band worked to release Campbell’s debut album, Livin’ and Other Western Ideas in 2021, combining elements of rockabilly, western swing, and good old-fashioned honky tonk. Nicholas has had the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Melissa Payne, Paul Reddick, Blue Rodeo and plenty of other artists. With Campbell’s new singles and the album to come, Gonna Have A Ball Tonight, the group has shifted their tone to include a more rock n’ roll-centric sound, adding a renewed breath of energy and excitement to Campbell’s signature country sensibilities.
