Colours of Africa – Arts Workshop

Belleville Public Library 254 Pinnacle Street, Belleville, ON

Come and immerse yourself in a visual arts workshop with new and old friends. Belleville artist Emebet Belete has worked with mixed media collage throughout her career. In this workshop, she’ll introduce some of the techniques she uses in her work, and in her teaching. Participants will then have the opportunity to compose, design, and style their works on canvas using a variety of provided materials. For beginner or experienced artists, this workshop is accessible to all.

Ananse Storytelling with Nana Yaa Yeboaa

Oral tradition is key in Africa and elsewhere. Ananse stories originate in Ghana, West Africa. These are ancient stories that relate to people’s normal lives, and are as relevant now as when they were created. Normally stories are told around the fireside, but today we get a chance to sit down with an expert who can talk about and share Ananse stories in the beautiful Belleville library.

Cirque Kalabanté @ Bayside

The Afrique En Cirque show symbolizes the strength, agility and joy of life found in African youth. A handful of daring acrobats, accompanied by their musicians, perform to the pulsating rhythm of the djembes of Guinea with their authentic and original choreography and acrobatics. With the melodious sound of the Kora, Yamoussa Bangoura transports us to a place where the diversity of traditional African arts is illuminated and combined with the virtuosity of a modern North American Circus performance.

Belleville Theatre Guild: Between Breaths

Belleville Theatre Guild 256 Pinnacle St, Belleville, Ontario, Canada

Directed by Ian Feltham “Between Breaths” by Robert Chafe, tells the story of Jon Lien, an American Biologist living in Newfoundland with his wife Judy. Transplanted from South Dakota to study sea birds, he finds himself immersed in the cold North Atlantic freeing whales trapped in fishing gear. Recruiting Wayne, a resident Newfoundlander, he finds a way to set them free and preserve the precious fishing gear, the lifeblood of the local fishing industry. Yet Jon is suffering from a debilitating disease that will leave him wheelchair-bound and locked inside his mind. This is a story of being trapped and being set free and what we learn about ourselves along the way. This play is performed in one long act and the characters remain onstage for the entire production.

For a minimal cost Andrew will be offering pour over and aeropress tasting of a variety of his specialty roasts along side chocolate pairing from Center and Main Chocolate Co . Hatha Restore Yoga

Henry’s Place (formerly The River Inn) & Signal Brewing Co. 79 River Road, Corbyville, Ontario, Canada

A mix of slow and sweet yoga styles. A little Yin, a little Hatha, and a lot of stretching that is gentle on the body and soothing for the nervous system. Each posture is anchored in the breath and mindfulness. The class will close with a meditation leaving you refreshed for the week ahead. A great class for all levels- including beginners. Please Note: Doors will open at 7 pm. The class will begin at 7:15 pm. Studio Location is inside Corby Hall (formerly referred to at Henry’s or the River Inn, beside Signal).
