Belleville Theatre Guild: The Sound of Music

Belleville Theatre Guild 256 Pinnacle St, Belleville, Ontario, Canada

Directed by Moira Nikander-Forrester The Sound of Music, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s final collaboration, is coming to the BTG stage! Set at the beginning of WWII, it is based on the true story of the Von Trapp family who lived in Austria and escaped the scourge of the Nazis. This incredible production has it all: romance, comedy, intrigue, adventure, suspense, and high drama – all of which come together with the exquisite music score that is still beloved the world over. When a religious novice proves too high-spirited for the cloistered life, she is sent to serve as a governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her rapport with the children, together with her kind spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been annexed by Nazi Germany, who demands the Captain’s immediate service in their Navy. The family’s escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales in theatrical history.
