Two Short Plays: “Sea Wall” and “The Black Chair”

Theatre in the Wings 30 Bridge Street East, Belleville

Get ready to dive into the complicated and beautiful story of the human experience, with two unique and captivating plays. Witness a breathtaking solo performance in “Sea Wall” by Simon Stephens that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Explore the story of a devoted husband, a proud father, and a successful photographer named Alex, whose good fortune slips out from beneath his feet without warning, leaving Alex as a shell of the man he once was. Directed by Alex Crowther, and brought to life by the exceptional Toby Farrell. In “The Black Chair” written by Peter Paylor, audiences will uncover the intimate stories of fascinating characters as they interact with an old wooden chair. There’s James, an older gay man, he’s a “dandy”, and there’s Anne who works at the mall, she’s young and naïve. There’s Jeff, an engineer who keeps everything in, and Tina, who puts it all out there. And then there’s Mary, the caretaker. She’s the one with the keys. Featuring the dynamic directing duo of Alexandra Bell and Darren Moore and an all-star cast.

Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death

The Belleville theatre Guild welcomes you to the first play of the season! Agatha Raisin is a character created by M.C. Beaton in a series of books. This is the first story in the series. This murder mystery is full of comical characters and intriguing details to keep you engaged. The cast of 19 features many returning Belleville Theatre Guild actors and a number of actors new to our stage. The show runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Opening night is Thursday, October 10th and the closing matinee is October 27th.

Fall Tree Planting Event @ Sonny Belch Park

The Quinte Field Naturalists (QFN) and Rotary, in partnership with Tree Canada, Belleville Home Building Centre & Bayview Home Hardware, is planning a 2 day fall planting event at Clifford Sonny Belch Park. The public planting events are scheduled for Friday October 25 and Saturday October 26, 9am to Noon. Volunteers are encouraged to attend. With generous help from Picture Perfect Landscaping Quinte Ltd., organizers aim to plant over 200 trees and shrubs in the park. The goal of the fall planting event at Clifford Sonny Belch Park is to soften recreational areas and to connect existing evergreen corridors. The area is already known to support a number of wildlife species and QFN considers this event an opportunity to improve habitat and food sources for area birds and wildlife. Planting volunteers are encouraged to sign up by contacting gregPparsons@gmail.com. The Quinte Field Naturalists is an incorporated non-profit organization affiliated with Ontario Nature. Anyone interested in nature and wildlife is encouraged to join. Gallery 121 – 2024 Fall Show

Gallery 121 is delighted to present our Fall Show with Guest artists Jacquelin Morin and James Walt. Jacqueline ‘s acrylic paintings are a fusion of Impression and Realism, created with loose brush strokes using vibrant hues. Much of her inspiration comes in her studio on Salerno Lake near Minden Ontario, hence the title of this show “Life by the Lake”. James Walt, A.K.A. “The Grumpsy Woodturner” lives in Quinte West. James craftmanship is self- taught; often learning through You Tube different ways to transform wood blocks into bowls and vases. He sees the hidden gems in these blocks and then works to bring them to life. The Featured Member Artist for this show is Dona Knudsen. Dona is an award-winning watercolor artist and a member of two Galleries in Belleville. Her subject for this show “Negative Spaces Positive Places” is nature and includes unique perspectives and interesting techniques to create her enchanting images. and glorious flowers
